Three DVDs to Buy This Holiday Season

A list of three of the year's hottest blockbuster movies that you should make sure to stuff the stocking with. You can even take your viewing experience of these films to the next level and pick them up on Blu-Ray instead. There may not have been the best movies of the year but they were some of the most fun and were definite successes in the box-office, showing that the movie-going public hasn't completely abandoned the movie theater in favor of at-home viewing and illegal bootlegs. Check out the amazing transfers of these three films during the holiday season to be amazed, shocked and amused.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Let yourself get sucked into the Harry Potter saga and enjoy the ride. 'The Half-Blood Prince' is the moody, set-up film for the upcoming two-part final films. To understand Harry's newfound maturity and sense of purpose you have to see this film with pitch-perfect performances by everyone involved.

Star Trek

The correct way to make a reboot, J.J. Abrams hit all the right nerves with his modern 'Star Trek' adaption, appealing to both long-time Trekkies and newcomers to the franchise. From first frame to end, you'll be engrossed in the story of young Spock and young James Kirk. I was skeptical of the young actors but they performed wonderfully and will no doubt be reprising their roles in a sequel in the near future.

Inglorious Basterds

Tarantino's alternate history take on World War II was a huge hit for him and a big middle finger to all of those who thought he was down after the lackluster performance of 'Grindhouse.' The DVD for 'Basterds' is sure to be chalk full of behind the scenes video, deleted scenes, and hopefully a commentary track with the always amusing man himself, Tarantino.
